Our Team 

Rukmini Kumar

Co-Founder & Principal Scientist

Rukmini Kumar, co-founder and Principal Scientist at Vantage, leads all scientific efforts. She started working on systems biology models during her Ph.D at University of Pittsburgh, where she built a systems model of Sepsis, collaborating with researchers from University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Her work contributed to scientific publications as well as contributions to the model developed at Immunetrics. Since her PhD, she has spent more than a decade applying quantitative physiological modeling to assist with decision making in Pharma R&D. Her experience in what is now called Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP) includes 7+ years working with Entelos, after which she moved to India to start Vantage Research. Rukmini oversees scientific activities including oversight of all client projects.


Vikram Prabhakar

Co-Founder & CEO

Vikram Prabhakar, co-founder and CEO at Vantage, leads the strategic direction of the company. He brings to Vantage his passion for entrepreneurship combined with years of corporate management and business development experience. Vikram has helped build Vantage into a company with a talented and multidisciplinary team of scientists working with global Pharma & Life Sciences clients. The goal ahead is to continue to develop a center of excellence, that shapes the development of the field of QSP.



Prakash has over 3 years of experience working on large-scale models QSP models, and specializes in custom-built, fit-for-purpose models. He has developed deep experience in Diabetes Metabolism and Auto Immune Disorders. Prakash brings a strong modeling background from the discipline of Aerospace – modeling unsteady aerodynamics at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and  developing numerical schemes for highly viscous fluid mixing in the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He is interested in developing tools and methods for parameter identification.



Kannan Thiagarajan received a PhD in Electronics from Mid Sweden University, and brings quantitative expertise in numerical techniques and Monte Carlo methods. At Vantage, he has worked on multiple QSP projects, specializing on building new models from scratch. His modeling experience ranges from Opthalmology to Immuno-Oncology.



Maithreye has a Ph.D. in Computational Biology from the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology and post-doctoral research experience in Computational Neuroscience in IIT Madras. She has a multidisciplinary research experience and has carried out construction and imaging of small genetic circuits as well as their simulation and worked on models of neuronal networks.


Tamara Ray

Tamara comes from a Biotechnology background with Biochemistry and Genetics as her other majors. She did her master’s training in Molecular Biosciences (specialization in Cancer Biology) from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. She was an active healthcare researcher while working with the Apollo Hospitals for over 4 years. At Vantage, she delves down deep into scientific literature and validates scientific hypothesis.



Lakshmanan Jagannnathan has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Anna University, Chennai and post-doctoral research experience from New York University Langone Medical center, NY. Lakshmanan has broad research interests and expertise in multi-omics technologies and bioinformatics. He has also worked in GVK BIO and VIZIPhar biosciences where he was involved in performing literature surveys, data curation and project management activities.


Mrittika Roy

Mrittika holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from West Bengal University of Technology. As a part of her M.Tech. project, she was involved in developing nano-therapeutic approaches for targeting bacteria resistant to conventional antibiotics. At Vantage, Mrittika is part of a team working on a QSP model of hypertension.



Anuraag holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and master’s degree in Thermal Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras. For his master’s project, he worked on building a simulation tool for wave propagation using ray tracing technique in anisotropic materials. He also built a mathematical model to predict effective thermal conductivity of anisotropic materials and heterogeneous materials. At Vantage, Anuraag provides engineering support on developing tools and building QSP models for diabetes metabolism.


Tanvi Joshi

Tanvi received her Ph.D. at the University of Nottingham, UK followed by a postdoctoral stint at Stuttgart Research Center Systems Biology. She gained considerable modeling experience from working on multiscale models for tumor growth and therapy. At Vantage, she provides engineering support to build QSP models for autoimmune diseases.



Priyamvada holds bachelor’s and master’s degree in Biological Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Madras. As a part of her master’s project she worked on developing a network model for CA3 sub-region of hippocampus using Izhikevich neurons. At Vantage, she provide engineering support on developing tools and building QSP models.



Seshasai comes from a Chemical Engineering background with a bachelor’s degree from the SASTRA University and a master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. For his master’s project he worked on the multiplicity, travelling waves and pattern formation in coupled autocatalytic reaction systems. At Vantage, Seshasai provides engineering support to a team working on PK-PD model based analysis of systemic corticosteroids.



Working with us

In a typical project, our team works closely with the client Pharma R&D team to gather the required information on drug & disease physiology, builds the model and then simulates various scenarios. These simulations help client R&D teams clearly visualize various possible outcomes, and therefore make more effective decisions at each stage of the life-cycle, which can range from terminating a project which seems likely to fail, or designing clinical trials with the optimal dosage regimen for the target population.

New team members go through an 8-12 week ramp up period in which they are exposed to various aspects of the job – industry, project lifecycle, exposure to relevant research tools, techniques and processes. Following this training period, team members will join a customer project and directly interact with client R&D teams working on novel drug development projects.

  • Develops mathematical models to analyze dynamical behavior, quantify parameter sensitivities and general behavior or systems studied.
  • Surveys available literature summaries and papers to make reasoned decisions on biological representation.
  • Develops tools, scripts etc. to make workflows more efficient.
  • Summarizes research steps taken and their contribution to project goals effectively communicate to team members and customers.
  • Communicates with client research team to identify need, strives to understand and define a complex research problem, and break it down into research flow.
  • Communicates effectively with team members and customers and leads the project in alignment with customer expectations.
  • A Masters or PhD in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics or related field.
  • Coursework in Ordinary Differential Equations , Techniques of Non-Linear Dynamics.
  • Coding and Scripting experience with demonstrated project work.
  • Solid research experience in mathematical modeling and simulation; Published (or submitted) manuscripts are highly valued.
  • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to work in multi-disciplinary teams world-wide.
  • Interest in biology is necessary. Exposure to biology is a major plus.

R&D Track for Undergraduates

For B. Tech and B.E. students, we offer a 1-2 year R&D track program. This program is targeted at research oriented undergraduates who are planning to pursue an advanced degree, but would like to spend a year or two getting industrial research experience. Vantage works with global customers on cutting edge science – such real-world R&D experience enhances the employee’s scientific research credentials, while the exposure will help them determine which area to specialize in. R&D trackers will be encouraged to work on scientific publications and will be provided guidance and support in applying to advanced degree programs.
